Oops...too much not good food. This shouldn't have been such a high point day because I ate at home for everything...although some of it was leftovers. Oy.

I ate a TON of bread at dinner. My tummy really hurt and I thought bread would be soothing. I wouldn't do that normally.

PERFECT! I used light butter in order to lower the point value of the frittata...it would have been too high otherwise. Don't think it took away from the dish at all.

Activities: No time...unless you count fast-walking to get from the ballgame to the waterfront and beat the crowds.

Not bad...was at the ballgame, had lunch out after my WW meeting, went to a bar and out to dinner and stayed at 18.5. I think that is commendable. I went with screwdrivers as my drink in order to save some points...they are 3 points each...I thought they'd be more like 2...oh well.

Apologies for the lack of posting...I needed a breather! I've decided I'm not going to "make up" the posts I missed. I can't keep this up everyday and if I try I won't be happy. So my posts may be more sporadic but I think I will be happier.

Could have been a better day. A 12 oz. smoothie is 7 points. I didn't think it would be that high because of the fruit content. It was just orange juice, strawberries and banana. I was wrong!!

Yes points. I officially joined Weightwatchers at F's request. I'm a litle skeptical but am optimistic it will make a difference as I seem to be plateauing in this weight loss gain.
My daily point allowance is 18, plus the 35 weekly flex points. It seems very low compared to F's 34 daily points. We eat so much together that I am not sure how this is going to work with his much higher point allowance. So we will see. I had to use flex points on the first day which doesn't seem like an awesome start.
I had grilled fish tacos for dinner. I thought that was a good choice but 9 points!! That is half of my allowance. So need a new option for Mexican restaurants.
Is anyone else on Weightwatchers? What do you think?

Happy St. Patrick's Day. I did not partake in St. Pat's celebrations at ALL this year! Just wasn't in me. I wish I ate fewer calories today. Chicken cutlets seem high in calories. I LOVE them! I need a better way to cook chicken because chickent breasts shouldn't be the bad part of my diet you know...

- 2.5 oz. salmon salad
- 1/2 Twix fun size bar
- 1 mini KitKat bar
- 3 miniature Snickers bars
- 12 french fries with ketchup
- two sips of F's beer
- 1 cup hummus w/ 5 cucumber slices, 4 baby carrots, warm pita and tortilla chips
Total calories: 1735
The hummus was 435 calories. Diet books would tell you to avoid hummus and other tips because they are high in calories. However, I did not have the hummus as a snack. It was the main part of my dinner. So I think it is okay? Anyone have any insight on this?
My dinner last night was at a bar while playing trivia. The bar was serving appetizers at half price. The other options were spinach/artichoke dip, buffalo wings, chicken tenders, five-layer dip, potato skins, chicken quesadilla, french fries, beef sliders, buffalo chicken sliders, reuben sliders, or chili nachos. I'd love to hear what other health conscious readers would have chosen.

Apparently, two tacos are 513 calories. Much more than I would have thought...any suggestions on how to lighten tacos? I only had 2!

Sounds like a good day but I think I may have underestimated the amount of mashed potatoes I ate.

Activities: I went for a run, but I lost track of for how far, approx. 2.44 miles. (I know this is an underestimate though)

- 1 bottle Vitamin 10 water (orange)
- peanut M&M's and mint dark chocolate chips (too many!) I had a really bad work day....

- 1/2 order nachos with chili

Total calories: 1826
It had been a bad day, workwise and that is reflected in my food choices. What do you eat when you have a bad day? I eat chocolate. What can I do to prevent this?

Activities: Run 1.22 miles, light stretching. I'm experiencing pain in the bottom of my foot. I don't think it is serious but I am unsure about exercising as a result....not sure what to do about the St. Patty's Day 8k on Sunday...

Not bad. I don't think today had any major red flags. I felt more full than 1339 calories though so I hope I didn't miscalculate anything.

The good: My ate at a Mexican restaurant last night and seem to have stayed in a good calorie range. BUT I think a fillet of catfish is too large for my lunch. Next time I will cut it in half. How did everyone else do today?

- 1/4 lb. lemon pepper catfish

- 1/2 baked zucchini, in crisps

Total calories: 1057
I felt more full than 1057 calories so I think I miscalculated how the amounts of what I ate. I love the lemon pepper catfish I make but I think a non-breaded catfish option would be better for me. Any suggestions?

Lemon Fish Bake

This is on the agenda for tonight's dinner...
Adapted from Lawrys
LEMON FISH BAKE
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
3 tbsp. butter or margarine
1 tsp. lemon pepper
1/2 tsp. seasoned salt
1/4 tsp. dill weed
1 lb. tilapia or catfish fillets
1/2 cup. dry bread crumbs
Preheat oven to 350. In shallow dish, combine butter/margarine, lemon pepper, seasoned salt, and dill weed. Dip fillets in mixture, then evenly coat with bread crumbs.
On baking sheet, covered in aluminum foil and sparyed with canola spray, arrange fillets. Bake 30 minutes or until fish flakes with a fork.

I LOVE this dish. This is my favorite way to make catfish. Hopefully it will stay in my calorie range! I will report tomorrow.

Triple-Chocolate Cherry Bars

I made these for F's birthday. They were delish :)

1 box chocolate cake mix
21 oz. cherry pie filling
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup chocolate chips
chocolate frosting
1. Heat oven to 350F (325F if dark, non-stick pan). Grease and flour, or spray with baking spray with flour, 15x10x1-inch or 13x9 inch pan.
2. In large bowl, gently mix dry cake mix, pie filling, eggs, and chocolate chips with rubber scraper, break up an undissolved cake mix by pressing with scraper. Carefully spread in pan.
3. If 15x10x1, bake 25-30 minutes. If 13x9, bake 35-40 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely, about 1 hour. Frost with frosting. For bars, cut into 8 rows by 6 rows. 48 bars.

I had a bit of a candy splurge in the middle of the day. I was exhausted and needed the pick me up. Do you have days like that? What do you do for a pick me up?

I went to La Madeleine for dinner last night after shopping for wedding invitations. I had their "skinny" chicken caesar melt which they advertised as 510 calories (including fruit and vegetable soup). Was this a good choice? The sandwich was very skinny....it was on a very narrow baguette which is why the calorie count was so low. I was not hungry after but I wasn't sure if this was a good choice.

- 1.5 cup garlic mashed potatoes
- 1/2 salmon entree with sauteed onions
- spoonful of creamed spinach (did not like it)
- espresso cup of hot chocolate
- 2 spoonfuls of F's crab bisque (birthday dinner)
- 2 bites of F's NY strip steak
- mixed field green saladss with tomatoes and a dressing
- 1 small piece of foccacia
- spiced cashews

Total calories: 1823
Not the best day but it was F's birthday which required a dinner at a steak restaurant and cake. The restaurant serves garlic mashed potatoes family style and they were SO GOOD!! But not good for the diet. I will be better next time I hope!

Total calories: 1373.
Good day calorie-wise. It was hard for me to determine how much rotisserie chicken I ate; the same with the chocolate chips and the pasta. It is very hard to quantify. Any ideas?

- blueberry pomegranate reduced calorie juice
Total calorie: 1083

I think I underestimated the proportions of what I ate though because I felt fuller than 1083 calories. But not a bad day.

Activities: None....I really have been under the weather and had a busy day otherwise. I went to a friend's baby shower and then she wanted to go out at night so I basically came home from shower, changed, and went back out, and then didn't get home until 1:30 AM. C'est la vie!
Food--
- 1 hard boiled egg
- 1 cup coffee (1/2 tsp. sugar and a bit of heavy cream to sweeten)
- 1 cup diet coke
- 2 pieces of quiche, one with tomato and the other with mushroom (both were meatless)
- ~2 cups leafy green salad that was lightly dressed, I wasn't sure what the dressing was
- 1 smallish piece of yellow cake with chocolate frosting (didn't actually finish the cake)
- 1 cup of tea sweetened with juice from 1 lemon wedge
- 1 small slice of bread with butter
- penne pasta dish with sauteed shrimp, cherry tomatoes, and fresh basil in a tomato sauce, ~ 1 1/2 c. pasta, 5 shrimps
- a few sips of my fiance's iced tea at the movies
- ~ 1 cup buttered popcorn at the movies
Total calories: 2102.

My calorie counter says that the two pieces of quiche were 1131 calories which I did not expect. This was obviously my problem today. The quiche was part of the lunch at the shower. They had a baked ziti dish with meat, the quiches, pigs in blanket, Italian sausage, and the green salad. I thought eating the quiche and the salad would be the best option. Next time I will only eat one I promise!!

Great day! The weight was on the high side but I'm not complaining because I had such a great day otherwise. I know the weight will come back down.

No exercise, I was very late to work and skipped my lunch break. Was too exhausted to work out when I got home (went out to dinner with a friend).
Food
- 1 banana
- 1/2 cup homemade granola
- 1 Yoplait fat-free yogurt (blueberry)
- 1 bottle Vitamin 10 water
- 1.75 cup baked ziti
- 5 grape tomatoes
- 1/3 cucumber
- 15 slices raw mushroom
- 1 cup coffee with 2 splenda and creamer
- 1 small soft pretzel with a cheese dip
- seasonal fruit side
- 1 black bean burger with pickles, ketchup, mustard, tomato on a whole wheat roll
Total calories: 1865
1.75 cups of baked ziti is a large serving...645 calories. This was 1/3 of a serving I bought at Sbarro...haha. Good thing I exercised portion control but I will have to do better.

Well a good day, calorie wise. But mostly because I wasn't feeling well and was too exhausted after boot camp to eat!
Do you eat granola? My mom sent me some and it is delicious. She thinks it is healthy because she used no butter, not a lot of sugar and there are not many nuts considering the amount of notes. But I have no idea. I hope it's ok!

- 5 pieces of sesame chicken
- 3/4 vegetarian egg roll
- 1/2 cup vegetarian lo mein
- 1/4 white rice
- 1 glass red wine
Total: 2033
The sesame chicken is the villain in my food today. This evening I went to a trivia night at a temple. The admission price includes dinner and drinks (and you'll notice I only drank one). The dinner was sesame chicken, egg rolls, lo mein, fried rice, and white rice. The sesame chicken alone was 1050 calories. But I didn't have much of a choice. Should I have filled up on lo mein and fried rice and skipped the sesame chicken altogether??

- 1 cup "Rosh Hashannah honey orange carrots" (yes, I know Rosh Hashannah was months ago but I make these year round. These were leftovers from the potluck last night)
- 2 cups salad
- 1 Fiber one bar
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 3 cups jasmine tea
- lemon chicken with vermicelli entree at a Vietnamese restaurant
Total calories: 1759

Not a horrible day but could be better. Next time, I will eat only half the vermicelli in my dish and eliminate some carbs.

Welcome back!

Weight: 129.8...so relieved after last night.
Exercise: some light weights and crunches (hungover! and busy)
Food (I was hungover...)
- 2 small croissants
- 2-cup salad with blue cheese dressing
- 1 cup orange juice
- 4 cups caramel popcorn
- 1 very small brownie
- cheese dip with chicken on tortilla chips and bread
- 1 empanada
- 2 small slices of pizza
- a vegetable casserole, approx. 1/2 cup
Total calories: 2598

So I started the day hungover and barely ate, then went to a pot luck dinner and ate a LOT....too much! Next time: no caramel popcorn (although it did result in me not eating the brownies!). I also should have skipped the cheese dip. I am going to a baby shower next week and I am going to try to learn from this!

-- 1 bagel with butter (any suggestion of what to put on a bagel besides butter?)
-- brown sugar because I needed some sugar (I realize that this is awful)
-- 3/4 whole wheat pita bread with pesto sauce
-- 2 roasted vegetable agnolotti with tomato sauce
-- 1 fruit roll-up
-- 1 french vanilla coffee with heavy cream
-- 1/5 pitcher frozen margarita
-- tortilla chips and salsa (approximately 20 chips)
-- 1.5 chicken enchiladas
-- Spanish rice
-- 1 glass pinot noir
-- 3 cranberry/vodkas

....and when I arrived home, drunk what did I eat?

-- mozzarella cheese :(

Total calories: 3164.

Okay, my problem areas are obviously the cheese. What do others eat when they get home at 3:30AM and have had too much to drink? For the most part I am limiting my alcohol intake but some days that is not possible. I desperately want to lose weight but I am not willing to give up my life.

What do you think of the enchiladas? What do you order at Mexican restaurants? Could I have ordered better? Should I have skipped the tortilla chips? I thought I ate them in moderation compared to the last time but still probably too much. I promise no vodka next time!! (and no party bus). My college roommate used to think that the amount of calories she drank the night before was counteracted by the fact that she barely eats the next day so she offset the calories of her drinks? Any thoughts on this?

- 1 slice BBQ short ribs pizza

- 3/4 cucumber
- 1 strawberry Greek yogury with 1/2 cup lowfat granola
- 3 peanut M&Ms
- 1/2 zucchini
- 1/4 lb. tilapia with sauteed onions and mushrooms
- 1 cup salad with light Italian salad dressing
- 7 conversation hearts
- 3 strawberries with light whipped cream
- 1/2 glass red wine
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1 cup herbal tea
- 7 cheese cubes
Total calories: 1911

I was so hungry that day. I don't know why. The cheese cubes were BAAAAD for me but they were samples at the grocery store. They say you shouldn't go to the grocery store hungry because you will buy junk food. I didn't buy junk food but I ate the cheese cubes. Ugh. Tomorrow, is another day. I am eating at my favorite Latin American restaurant for a girls' night which will requires either margaritas or sangria and chips and salsa. I hope I can behave...any suggestions????

Activities: Ran 2.92 miles (love the gym at my office!)

- 1/2 bagel, toasted with butter (no peanut butter in the house because I made the cookies)
- 1 Greek strawberry yogurt
- 1/2 cup lowfat granola
- 1 bottle water
- 1 large piece of ice cream cake (hadn't eaten lunch and had to go to co-worker's going away party...ugh!)
- 1 1/3 cup cheesy turkey and rice
- 1 salmon burger, without roll, with ketchup
- 14 steamed string beans
- 3 cubes of American cheese

Total calories: 2121. Okay, worst day I've had foodwise in a longtime. NEVER go to a party without having eaten lunch. I know that. I loooove ice cream and have essentially given it up so I suppose I was due for some but I wish I could have waited until it was summer!

Weight: 130.2 lbs....not the greatest weigh in but I did eat the peanut butter cookie dough the night before...
Activities: None, had a working lunch and was too tired after work to work out. NOT GOOD.

- 1/2 cup turkey
- 14 grape tomatoes
- 1/2 cucumber
- 1 cup of coffee with 2 splenda and 1 creamer
- 2 1/2 slices of bread with olive oil
- 1 slice barbeque short rib pizza
- 6 1/4 roasted vegetable agnolotti with tomato sauce
- 1 natural fruit rollup
- 3 pieces of cheese
Total calories: 1429

My dad was in town so a dinner out was required. I had wanted to go to Ted's Montana Grill so I could just get a salad but there was a wait. So we ended up at an Italian restaurant. The roasted vegetable agnolotti was a vegan dish so I think I chose wisely but would love to hear the opinions of others.
Question: What do you use to sweeten your coffee? What is best for a health conscious person that is desperate to lose weight? I use splenda but would love to hear from others!

- Fiber one oats and strawberry bar
- 1 cup roasted carrot soup
- 14 dried apple rings
- 1 bottle of water
- 1 1/2 cups cheesy turkey and rice
- peanut butter cookie dough :( (made cookies for a co-workers going away party)

Total calories: 1752

Lessons Learned: A serving of my cheesy turkey and rice has 384 calories just from the rice. I think that is too much. Should I just use less rice when I prepare it? Should I switch to brown rice? Any comments on this would be appreciated.

Apologies to my readers (although I don't have any) for my absence of posts. The reason I have put off starting a blog for months was my inability to update regularly. Now that I am not snowed in this seems to be true. So the next few entries will be catch up.

Weight: 129.6!!
Activities: None, felt dizzy most of the day.
Food-
- 2 cups frosted mini-wheats
- 1 slice Valveeta cheese
- 2 cups homemade hot cocoa
- .33 can whole cranberry sauce
- 1 whole wheat turkey wrap
- 1 cup roasted tomato soup
- 13 raw baby carrots with blue cheese dressing

I hadn't felt well so I mostly just ate comfort food.

Total calories: 1683

Lessons Learned: need to cut down on the hot cocoa!

Happy Valentine's Day!

- salad with approx. 2 1/2 tablespoons of raspberry vinaigrette dressing
- 1 1/4 pieces chicken marsala
- yellow rice

Today consisted of a day trip to our state's capitol. We got home after midnight and I was starving and exhausted. Hence, the last entry in my food diary.

- 2 slices American cheese

Total calories: 1335 calories.

How did I do? No Valentine's day dessert for me because I made our Valentine's Day dessert on Saturday.

So the food was a bit random; but the calories stayed under control. We went out mezze for dinner so that explains the small plates. And the blackberry mousse was a V-day treat!

7 multigrain tortilla chips with 1/4 cup salsa
1 3/4 cup cheesey turkey and rice
1 mug of pomegrante-white tea
2 squares of Godiva raspberry chocolate
Total calories: 1569

I was hungry at night but refused to eat anything else. If you will notice no honey on my bread or in my tea! I ate the smarties because I was hungry at work and that was what was in the candy jar....I had eaten all the snacks I had brought for the day. We have no more Godiva chocolate in the house so that will be eliminated from my diet as well. I ate more calories today than the other days but was still hungry....not sure what to do about that. Any suggestions?

Starting out

I have wanted to start a blog for LONG time. After 4 1/2 snow days here I am! I want this to be about food and fashion but right now I think it will be primarily about food. I am desperately trying to lose weight for my wedding. I am 5'3 with a medium body frame. On December 31, 2009 I weighed 135.8 lbs. I want to weigh 122.1 by 6/30/2010. I currently weigh 130.4 but have been as low as 128.2 in the last month. The fluctuations really frustrate me and I want to be held accountable. So by posting what I eat I am hoping the people read this and will let me know what I am doing wrong. I am going to post each day what I ate the day before, any exercise, and my weight.
